I stumbled upon this footage while digitizing a VHS tape for a neighbor of mine. The footage caught my attention when I saw some compelling shots of New York City in the 80s. I kept watching as a family of 3 took me along for their visit to the World Trade Center. But the eeriest moment was when the date popped on the screen: SEP. 11 1988.
I decided to edit the footage into a short documentary, and I found a great music track to use on Free Music Archive. Then, I designed an interactive website (9-11-88.com) featuring the film, an original song that I wrote and recorded, and a history of the WTC through news articles.
I love when projects like this come together quickly. I had the impulse to act on my good fortune, and it ended up becoming something powerful and artistic.
